Drumming for Healing
Use the rhythm of drums to nourish you spiritually with Sheri Mealhouse (Hawkwoman). Feel the Creator’s rhythm inside you during a semi-monthly drum circle. Join facilitator Sheri Mealhouse (Hawkwoman) at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha) on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. In the cosmic experience, drumming touches us at a deep level and brings all creation together as a community. Especially now, when our external and internal worlds can be so polarized, communication that bears witness to creative love is very important. Drumming—and feeling the Creator’s rhythm inside of us—resonates with a variety of people. All racial, economic, denominational and other differences can disappear when a group of people share rhythm. As you prayerfully listen to other drummers in order to make music, the whole group will become one. These drum circles take place twice a month, and you may attend one or all. No experience is necessary. You are welcome to bring your own drum or use one of ours. This drum circle meets near the pond south of the Center in nice weather and in the Art Room in inclement weather. A free-will offering to the facilitator will be accepted at the door. From: 6:00pm - 7:00pm. For more information or to register, contact Prairiewoods at www.Prairiewoods.org or 319-395-6700.

Deepening Contemplative Practices Retreat
Welcome the New Year with peace and prayer, solitude and silence with FSPA Sisters Cecy Corcoran, Betty Daugherty, Joann Gehling, Delmarie Gibney & Laurette Sprosty. This retreat begins with a light supper Friday at 5 p.m. and ends after lunch on Sunday at 1 p.m. Come to this retreat ready to step into the silence and solitude in which we encounter the Divine. We will move gently through experiences of Centering Prayer, Lectio Divina, Body Prayer, Contemplative Walking and other practices. Such practices help us to live more consciously with an appreciation of God’s presence within us and around us. From a “plunging into mystery” on Friday evening until a “gathering of energies” on Sunday, this retreat offers a balance of input, private reflection and group experiences. If you sense the allurement of the Divine, a longing for what seems beyond your reach, and the time to respond to those nudges of the Spirit, then this may be the weekend for you. The cost is $230 and includes sessions, lodging and all meals. The commuter fee is $180 and includes sessions, Saturday lunch and dinner, and Sunday lunch. (Lodging at Prairiewoods is recommended in order to remain in the silence of woods and prairie.) A non-refundable deposit of $25 is required at registration. Sweat Lodge (Inipi) Ceremony

Participate in an ancient sacred ceremony with Kerry Batteau & Rod Courtney. The Sweat Lodge Ceremony pre-dates recorded history and was practiced in some form by every culture in the world. These sweats were held for reasons ranging from relaxation and socialization to healing and purification. Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha) and facilitators Rod Courtney and Kerry Batteau offer a sweat focused on prayer, purification, recognition and healing. The lodge is a small dome-shaped structure in which participants sit on the earth. Heated stones are placed in the center of the lodge and the leader, or water pourer, pours water over the stones to create steam. There are four rounds that include the singing of sacred songs, and after each round the lodge door is opened for more stones to be brought in. Please note that the lodge is a small enclosure that is dark and extremely hot inside. If you have claustrophobia or any medical conditions that prevent you from going into a sauna, you should not participate in this ceremony. We want people to have a safe experience, so there are certain protocols that need to be followed: 1. Women on their moon cycle should not participate in the sweat. 2. Dress for men is shorts or swim trunks with no metal on them. Dress for women is a dress or skirt that goes below the knees (or sweat pants). Please do not wear sleeveless tank tops, bathing suits, metal jewelry, or makeup.3. Bring at least two towels, one for inside the lodge and one for drying off afterwards.4. Bring dry clothing to wear after the sweat.5. There will be a sacred fire outside the lodge that the grandfathers (stones) are heated in. 6. Bring tobacco (loose smoking tobacco) as an offering. 7. Outside the lodge door is an altar made of earth. Sacred items may be placed upon the altar. 8. Hydrate well before the sweat. Please bring bottled water or other drinks to share (no alcohol). We usually have some fresh fruit to share after the sweat.9. The sweat leader will talk more about the ceremony itself before and during the actual ceremony. 10. Please meet at the sweat lodge on the Prairiewoods grounds before the start time. A release form will need to be signed through Prairiewoods. These forms are available at the front desk and at the lodge. A suggested offering of $10 will be accepted at the door. (Please note that any offerings go to Prairiewoods, not to anyone associated with the preparation or running of the Sweat Lodge Ceremony.) A light meal (soup, veggies, cheese, etc.) is shared following the ceremony; please bring something to share. Registration is required and these ceremonies often fill up, so please register early! Time: 4:00pm - 9:00pm. For more information contact Prairiewoods at www.Prairiewoods.org or 319-395-6700.

Turning Into You
One of the most appealing and yet frightening offerings to people today is, “Just be yourself”, “Be who you are”.  Most of us don’t know how to do that.  We tend to invest more energy and value in what we are not than in who we are. Learning how to turn inward and make decisions that include our own intuition and inner guidance allows us to express our uniqueness and feel comfortable as ourselves even when all around us tells us we should be this or shouldn’t be that. Contact Elizabeth Smith, 319.361.9155, elizabeth@yourintelligentheart.com. Costs: $333 which includes workbook. Course is 7 Sessions, 6 Group & 1 One-to-One Wednesdays 7:00–9:00 PM. One-to-One sessions are by appointment.

Beginning Shamanic Journeying: Partnering with Compassionate Helping Spirits
Carole Meade, LMHC, Shamanic Practitioner for 20 years. Shamanism is an ancient and powerful practice that can help us thrive during these challenging and changing times. In our modern-day technological world we have been led to believe that humans are at the summit of creation. It would be more realistic if we could see ourselves as allies of the natural world rather then as its rulers. By choosing to work in harmony with the natural world - as once all living things did - we could redress this imbalance. Shamanism teaches there are doorways into other realms of reality where helping spirits reside who can share guidance, insight and healing for the world in which we live. It reminds us our true status is that we are part of the web of all things. During this class you will learn how to complete a shamanic journey. Please bring a drum or rattle, if you have one. Wear comfortable clothing, warm socks, bring a bandana or other eye covering, a cushion or blanket to lie on and a pen and notebook to record your journeys. 9:00 to 5:00. Cost $90. This includes a copy of Shamanic Journeying, A Beginners’s Guide by Sandra Ingerman. 7 CEUs To register contact: Carole Meade cedarwmn@aol.com, 515-279-9625, www.cedarwoman.net.
